Ramadan
When does Ramadan 2025 start?

This year the month of Ramadan will start on Saturday, March 1, 2025 . From this date, we will intend to fast by doing sahur.

The Importance of Ramadan

Ramadan has a great importance in our religion as it is the month when the Holy Quran was revealed. For us Muslims, this month is an opportunity to discipline our nafs by fasting, to turn towards worship and to improve our spirituality. It is also a period when we increase sharing and cooperation.

Preparing for Ramadan: What to Watch Out For?

Ramadan is a time of spiritual and physical preparation. Adapting to this process in advance will help you fast more comfortably and efficiently. Here are some important points to consider when preparing for Ramadan:

1. Getting Used to the Fasting Pattern

Before Ramadan, it is useful to review your eating habits in order to adapt to the sahur and iftar schedule. In particular, it is important to eat meals at set times and avoid unnecessary snacks to get used to being hungry for long periods of time during the day. In addition, in order to acclimatize the body to fasting, it may be easier to adapt to Ramadan by fasting on some days.

Consuming satiating and energizing foods at sahur can prevent fatigue during the day. For example, protein-rich foods, healthy fats and complex carbohydrates should be preferred. At the same time, preparing the body by reducing caffeine consumption before the start of Ramadan can prevent headaches and fatigue.

2. Spiritual Preparation

Ramadan is not only a period of abstinence from food and drink; it is also a month of spiritual purification and worship. Therefore, spiritual preparation before Ramadan is of great importance.

First of all, it is useful to read the Holy Qur'an and benefit from its commentaries in order to grasp the meaning and importance of this month. At the same time, regularizing daily prayers and increasing the habit of prayer will make it easier to adapt to the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan.

Being patient and tolerant in daily life, avoiding bad habits, backbiting and bad words are also part of spiritual preparation. In order to make the most of Ramadan, it is important to make intentions and prepare oneself for this process.

3. Healthy Nutrition

Eating a healthy and balanced diet during Ramadan makes fasting easier and maintains body resistance. Therefore, the content of the food consumed during iftar and sahur is of great importance.

Protein foods, whole grain products and fibrous foods that will keep you full for a long time should be preferred at sahur. Excessively salty, fatty and sugary foods should be avoided, as these foods can increase the feeling of thirst during the day.

When it is time for iftar, it is recommended to break the fast with a light date or water to avoid straining the stomach. Then, it would be healthier to move on to the main meal by slowly acclimatizing the stomach with light foods such as soup. It is important not to eat fast, but to eat slowly to facilitate digestion. At the same time, it is important to consume enough water to keep the body hydrated.

Worship during Ramadan

Ramadan is a time of worship and spiritual peace. To make the most of the virtues of this month, it is of great importance to worship regularly, read the Qur'an and engage in charity.

1. Taraweeh Prayer

The Taraweeh prayer, which is performed on the nights of Ramadan, is one of the most important prayers of this blessed month. Taraweeh is a special sunnah prayer that is performed after Isha prayers. Although it is recommended to be performed in congregation, it can also be performed alone at home.

Taraweeh prayers are important to benefit from the blessings of Ramadan nights and to feel the spiritual atmosphere. At the same time, the surahs and prayers recited during the prayer increase one's awareness of worship. Therefore, it is important to pray Taraweeh as regularly as possible during Ramadan.

2. Reading the Qur'an

Since Ramadan is the month when the Holy Qur'an was revealed, it is very important to read the Qur'an, learn its meaning and reflect on it. During Ramadan, Muslims strive to complete the Qur'an and try to better understand this holy book.

Reading the Qur'an should not be limited to recitation; it is important to learn the meanings of the surahs, read the commentaries and develop a deeper understanding by making connections with the hadiths. Also, turning to the Qur'an on holy nights, such as Laylat al-Qadr in Ramadan, brings great reward.

3. Sadaqah and Zakat

Ramadan is also known as the month of charity and sharing. Helping those in need is one of the most beautiful acts of worship in this month.

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam and is considered more virtuous when given during Ramadan. Zakat refers to the giving of a certain portion of one's wealth to the poor and both cleanses one's wealth and increases social solidarity.

Sadaqah, on the other hand, is an act of charity that does not have a set rate like zakat, but comes from the heart. Helping people who are financially disadvantaged, contributing to iftar tables, supporting orphans, or engaging in other charitable activities is in keeping with the spirit of Ramadan.

In addition, many people fulfill the ritual of fitrah and give financial aid to those in need at the end of Ramadan. These donations strengthen social cohesion and increase the blessings of Ramadan.

Preparing physically and spiritually for Ramadan is very important to spend this month more efficiently. Getting used to the fasting regime, eating a healthy diet and preparing yourself spiritually will help you to worship peacefully and consciously during Ramadan.

The best way to make the most of this month is to pray Taraweeh, read the Qur'an in abundance and embrace the spirit of solidarity. Ramadan is a great opportunity not only for individual worship but also for social solidarity.

We wish this blessed month to bring health, peace and blessings to the entire Islamic world. 🌙🤲
