February 6, 2023... A roar that shattered the silence of a winter night, followed by dust, smoke and tears... The 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes that struck Kahramanmaraş left Turkey in mourning. Collapsed buildings, hopes buried under rubble, wails and the horror of a dark night...
From the first moment of the disaster, all of Turkey mobilized. Search and rescue operations, aid trucks, meeting urgent needs... Everyone did their best to heal the wounds. Hope began to sprout again in the 10 provinces affected by the earthquake. The earthquake not only destroyed buildings but also the homes of many families. Basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter have become urgent. Ila Association was also aware of these needs and did not delay in extending a helping hand.
Light of Hope at the Table
Since the first day of the earthquake, Ila Association has been distributing hot meals for earthquake-affected citizens. The earthquake victims, who came together at iftar tables, both ate a hot meal and felt that they were not alone.
Ila Association met the basic needs of families affected by the earthquake with zakat aid. Aids such as food, clothing and hygiene materials were delivered to those in need.
For children affected by the earthquake, the holidays could be a time of bitter joy. Ila Association made them experience this joy again with the help of festive clothes. Children wearing their festive clothes shared the joy of Eid with smiles on their faces.
The February 6 earthquake went down in history as a catastrophe that will be etched in Turkey's memory. The suffering and losses will never be forgotten. But the hope and solidarity that sprouted after this disaster should not be forgotten. The work of aid organizations such as the Ila Association contributes to this light of hope burning even brighter. We wish Allah's mercy to our citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake and a speedy recovery to the injured. We wish patience and fortitude to all of Turkey in this difficult process.
