The conditions for a naflil sacrifice are the same as the conditions for the sacrifice on Eid al-Adha. These conditions are as follows:

  • The animal to be sacrificed must be a sheep, goat, calf or camel.
  • The animal to be sacrificed must be over 1 year old.
  • The animal to be sacrificed must be healthy and perfect.
  • The animal to be sacrificed can be slaughtered by the owner or by proxy.

There is no specific rule for the time of the nafil sacrifice. A person can perform nafil sacrifice at any time, whenever he or she wishes. For example, when a person's prayer is answered, when a request is fulfilled, when he is relieved of a burden, when he is granted a blessing, he can offer a nafil sacrifice.

Sacrificing a supererogatory sacrifice is a way of thanking Allah and seeking His pleasure. Sacrificing a sacrifice also helps to gain the pleasure of the Almighty and to fulfill the needs of the poor and needy.

It is necessary to make an intention to sacrifice a nafil sacrifice. When making the intention, it is necessary to state that the sacrifice is a nafil sacrifice. For example, the intention can be "I am performing a nafil sacrifice for the sake of Allah".

Examples of cases for sacrificing a nafil sacrifice are as follows:

  • A person has a long-awaited job
  • The healing of a person's illness
  • The end of a person's financial hardship
  • When a person wins an exam
  • When a person buys a house or a car
  • When a person enters into a marriage

In such cases, one can thank Allah by offering a nafil sacrifice.
